The Velveteen Rabbit & Corduroy (different books)

The book The Velveteen Rabbit is a wonderful, heart-touching book. It is about a velveteen rabbit who wants to become real. One day his owner (a little boy) can’t find the stuffed animal that he usually goes to sleep with, so he sleeps with the velveteen rabbit. They sleep with each other for a long time and become very good friends. The little boy believes that the velveteen rabbit is real. One day he argues and shouts that the rabbit is real. The Velveteen Rabbit suddenly notices that he was real. He became real because of the little boy! The ending is wonderful!

Th book Corduroy is well-known. It is about a stuffed animal who was never bought in the mall. He watched a lot of people come and go. One day a little girl asks her mother if she can buy Corduroy and is not allowed to. Her mother mentioned that she should get a newer toy. Corduroy’s button was missing a he didn’t even notice. Corduroy decides to go look for his button and has an adventure. He is found and put back into the store. A few days later the little girl comes back and buys him. She tells him that she counted how much money she had and she had enough money saved up to buy him! He was brought to his new home and was very happy. He got his own bed and got a new button!

Corduroy is similar to The Velveteen Rabbit because they are both stuffed animals. They both want to be played with and be loved. These characters are whimsical, stuffed animals. Corduroy and The Velveteen Rabbit are different because the Velveteen Rabbit wants to be real, and Corduroy wishes nothing more than to be played with and loved. They have very different endings, but they are both good stories. I cannot tell anymore because if you haven’t read both of them you should.

Lunch Money

Lunch Money is a book about a boy named Greg Kenton and a girl named Maura Shaw. Greg comes up with an idea of how to make fast money. Comic books! He was going to sell them at school. Then Maura cut into his business, when she starts making comic books! Then after a while of arguments and trouble they decide to work together. When their business starts taking off they face an enemy. An enemy that is tougher than they have ever been to each other.

Together can they make it through? Will their friendship and business prevail? What will happen to the kid who read the comics?

I like this book because this is very interesting and seems real. You really get caught up in the story and can relate to the characters. I realize why Maura and Greg are so upset about their enemy. They are great fun-loving characters with a spice of attitude. I myself can relate to them because I understand why they are angry and why they are sad. The reason they never realized they had so much in common was because they never stopped to talk to one another.

The author of this book, Andrew Clements is very creative. The illustrator of this book is Brian Selznick.

My Sister the Vampire

Olivia Abbot is about to discover a secret that will change her life forever!

Olivia’s first day of middle school, in a new town, where she didn’t know anybody, is… interesting. She goes into the school looking for the principal’s office, but meets two goths. They point her in the right direction.

Olivia finds out that the girl’s name is Ivy and her friend is Sophia. They become fast friends, but finally find out it’s more than that. They meet in the bathroom and figure out that they are identical twins. Beneath all the black eyeliner (Ivy) and pink sparkly blush (Olivia) they are well-   identical. They have the same birthday, were adopted at the same age, and given the same ring that they inherited from their birth parents on their 10th birthday. There’s only one thing that isn’t the same…

Ivy is a vampire…

And Olivia is a human…

Nothing will ever be the same again.

Through tests and trials, movies and makeovers, their bond is as strong as anything. They are stuck together like “black licorice and bubble gum!” Together they can get through anything. Or so they think…

I love, love, love this series. I have read each book about 10 times or more. They are great and suspenseful. Every time I read the books I notice new details. I notice a movement someone does or a clue about who did something. You can never guess what’s going to happen next and who they are going to meet. This series is amazing and very interesting. Each and every book is different with a completely different theme. This is a great series and deserves more readers.

Encyclopedia Brown

Encyclopedia Brown is a must read! It is creative, teaches children to pay attention to details, and is just plain interesting. Encyclopedia is a kid his real name is Leroy. He got his nickname because he is immensely smart, attentive, and creative. His brain is always working. It’s not always working on school work, though.

His father is the chief police officer and everyone wonders how every crime never goes unpunished. Chief Brown is a good, hardworking police officer, but sometimes even he can get stumped. Chief Brown brings home the toughest, hardest cases home for his son to solve. Only Encyclopedia, his father, and his mother know that he is the real detective. The town would be unhappy a ten-year old kid was basically choosing who was going to be punished. They Encyclopedia got so good at cracking cases he opened his own detective business. It was 25 cents for him to solve a mystery.

His cases are usually tied in with Bugs Meany. Bugs Meany is almost always causing trouble. He’s a large, mean troublemaker. He tries to trick kids into giving him money or getting them into trouble.

I think that this series is enlightening and sometimes tricky to solve. If you like the series “You Be the Jury Courtroom” books you’ll love these. This series is wonderful and makes children exercise their brain. When you read these books you can guess the answer, but you won’t always get it correct. This you should definitely read.

Sprinkles and Secrets

Sprinkles and Secrets is a great book! It is a sequel to It’s Raining Cupcakes. I know it’s a little weird I didn’t write about It’s Raining Cupcakes first, but I just read this book. It’s about to girls. One Isabel and one Sophie. This book is from Sophie’s point of view. Sophie wants to be an actress when she grows up and is really good at acting. Her summer camp counselor hooks her up with a great agent. She is really excited about her audition until…

Sophie finds out her audition is for a commercial. It’s not just any commercial, but a Beatrice’s Brownies commercial. Her best friend, Isabel, her mom owns a cupcake shop called It’s Raining Cupcakes. Beatrice’s Brownies is her number one competitor and It’s Raining Cupcakes isn’t doing so well. Their business level has gone way down. Sophie needs to chose between ruining her best friend’s life and an opportunity of her lifetime. I think that Sophie should have told Isabel about it earlier and if Isabel was a real friend she wouldn’t be mad. When Sophie lies to her though and then Isabel finds the truth she has the right to be mad. Sophie and Isabel learn to live and forgive. They make up and recover the friendship they once had.

Lisa Schroeder is a very good author. When I read her books they feel real. I read this book in one sitting and it was really good.

Suddenly Supernatural

Suddenly Supernatural is a great book about a girl named Kat and her best friend Jac. Kat is a medium. She inherited that from her mother. When she turned 13 she started seeing spirits. As a medium she helped dead people find their peace. She would bring them to do what they needed to do or maybe help them realize they are dead. Whatever she needed to do to help the spirits she would have to do or they would keep pestering her. Her best friend Jac isn’t a medium, but she helps Kat with her work. Together they have helped several spirits. Their first adventure was about a boy in a coma. His spirit was cut off from him and had to be attached. Kat had a dream about it and then in the end, with help, the little boy wakes up. His mother is not grateful or even polite to Kat and her friends.

I love the Suddenly Supernatural series. It is great and lively. (Unlike some of the spirits in the book.) It is a very involved series and funny. It is realistic and at the same time totally fictional. This series is for any age group and for anybody. The author of this series is Elizabeth Cody Kimmel.

Cinderella the More the Merrier

This book is about a girl named Cinderella Smith. She has a problem at school. A girl at school named Rosemary T. is becoming a big bully. Rosemary T. was supposed to be nice, but now she’s hanging out with a girl named Rosemary W. she started being mean. Cinderella doesn’t know what to do! The two Rosemarys could be more than she could handle. When Rosemary T. starts picking on Cinderella she wants to know why she is being so mean to her. Can Cinderella handle the two bullies?

I think that the book Cinderella the More the Merrier is a great book! It explains real life problems that kids have. This book also shows solutions for dealing with bullies. When you read this book it is thoroughly believable that this is happening to Cinderella. Cinderella Smith is a fascinating and interesting character.

This book is most likely for ages 8+ and fantasy readers. The author of this book is Stephanie Barden. This book is an Advanced Readers book generously given to me by the publisher. I will be posting on more books that are Advanced Readers so look out for them. This book will be published sometime in April.

Maximum Ride The Angel Experiment

Maximum Ride is a book about a girl named Maximum. She has several siblings. They are all experiments. Or so they think… When they were created by the School (an evil organization to dissect creatures) they were made ninety-eight percent human. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but that two percent really makes a difference. They have wings and can fly with them. Even if they are only children they are already a whole lot stronger than even some of the strongest adults. These kids have escaped with the help of Jeb (the only whitecoat who is nice). They were imprisoned by whitecoats (evil scientists who want to dissect creatures) He has been like a father to all of the kids and have encouraged them. They are on the run, without Jeb for the first time in their lives! They think that the Erasers (creatures also created by whitecoats half werewolves half humans) have killed him. They know that Erasers are stronger than them so an ordinary person wouldn’t stand a chance against them.

I think that this book is amazing! It is highly entertaining and very well written. You can feel their despair, their excitement, and their happiness. This book is a James Patterson novel. He is now writing kid’s books and I am hoping that he will write more. Every child should have the chance to read this book.

I would recommend this book to children ages 10-15. This story is action-packed and keeps you in suspense. It is like mystery books. If you like Nancy Drew or The Hardy Boys books I think you should read this book. There are more of them if it is liked.

Warriors

The Warriors series is a wonderful read! The first mini-series doesn’t really have a title. It is about a kittypet (a cat living with Twolegs (humans) ) who is adventurous. His name is Rusty and he has a best friend Smudge. He ventures into the forest and meets forest cats. Their leader (Bluestar) offers him a spot in ThunderClan. There are five different Clans in the forest: ThunderClan, WindClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, and their warrior ancestors StarClan. Many cats challenge their leader’s decision when Rusty comes to the Clan.

Bluestar changes Rusty’s name to a proper Clan cat name, Firepaw. Firepaw earned his apprentice name from his flame colored pelt. He trains hard, makes friends, discovers secrets, is loyal to his friends, and earns his warrior name, Fireheart. Eventually, after discovering, proving, and confirming a deep, dark secret about ThunderClan’s deputy he becomes deputy himself. Tigerclaw is put into exile. When his leader loses her nine lives granted to her by StarClan, he will become leader earning his leader name, Firestar. He goes to ShadowClan and becomes their leader, gaining nine lives. He dies at the claws of Scourge (BloodClan’s leader from the Twoleg place. His claws were reinforced by dog teeth and ripped all of Tigerstar’s nine lives at once.

The New Prophecy is the second mini-series. It is about four cats chosen by StarClan to venture off into the unknown looking for unknown things. Two extra cats join them. There is one cat chosen from each living Clan. In ThunderClan, Brambleclaw (Tigerstar’s son) is chosen. Though, being related to ThunderClan’s former treacherous deputy he has proven his loyalty many times over. Squirrelpaw finds out about  In WindClan, Crowpaw is chosen. He is a cranky, rude, back-talking apprentice, but who will risk his life defending his friends. RiverClan has a gentle, caring cat, Feathertail. Her brother could tell she was troubled and kept pressing her so eventually she tells him about her dream. Their former leaders came to them in their dreams and told them that they were chosen to meet 3 other cats at the next full moon and to listen to what midnight tells them. In ShadowClan Tawnypelt (Brambleclaw’s sister, daughter to Tigerstar. She left ThunderClan as an apprentice to go and join her father in ShadowClan. She didn’t feel like ThunderClan would let her become the best warrior she could be.)

They all go to the Fourtrees (The place cats of all clans can meet peacefully. Each Clan goes there and shares news. There is a truce every full moon created by StarClan and everyone has to leave if clouds cover the moon.) and look for the sign from midnight. The sign doesn’t come so they agree to meet again the next full moon. Brambleclaw has a dream which directs them the right way.

I like the Warriors series because it is so detailed. There are always new adventures and you can’t stop. I have read every single book! So far I am on my eighth time through the series. You don’t know what will happen next. Every single time I read a book again I notice different things about it. I look back in the book when I think I missed something. The Warriors series is a National Bestseller. I found out about this series from my Aunt. She got me the first book for my birthday and after a few chapters I was hooked. After I read about the first mini-series they started becoming really popular. I think every single kid should read this series. It is definitely one of the best series I have ever read.

I would recommend this series for anyone 8-11. It is action-packed and fantasy mixed together. Each book is only about 310 pages long. There are 24 series books. There are about 3 special editions and 15 manga. There is also like 5 books about introducing you to the whole of clans and stuff. This is just a wonderful series.

The first Warriors mini-series.

Lone Bean

Lone Bean is a book about a girl named Bean. Well, actually her real name is Chrysanthemum, but she prefers to be called Bean. It’s her first day of third grade and not even her nasty sister Gardenia or her oldest sister Rose can ruin it! So when she gets to school…

When she arrives at school she comes into line and hears her best friend Carla talking to another girl; she’s curious. Carla was saying the Green Apple Slurpee’s are really yummy. Bean and Carla used to hate the color green. Their favorite flavor at 7-Eleven has always been Blue Raspberry!

Sam is laughing about something they were talking about and Bean tries to get in the conversation because she feels left out. When she wants to know how Carla’s summer was, Sam tells her that she and Carla had so much fun. Bean hears someone yelling at her about no cuts. She ignores them because she wants to know why Carla isn’t being herself.

Bean said that she thought that they were best friends. Carla replies that she thinks that best friends should return phone calls and emails. Bean tries to explain that her “Grand Mommy’s” computer worked super slow. She told Carla that she never left her a message because she thought she would call back later. She got so caught up with the her cousin Tanya that she forgot to call back. She never meant to be a bad friend over the summer. Then she heard someone yelling about the cutting. Bean realizes that it was Terrible Tanisha who was yelling at her. Last year, Terrible Tanisha sat behind Bean and shot spitballs at her. One got stuck in her hair and she had to get a huge chunk of it cut out.

Their teacher, Ms. Sullivan, calls for everyone to come in! Carla is holding the door open for everyone so Bean decides to try and talk to Carla as she went through. When it was Bean’s turn to come into the classroom Carla slams the door in her face.

I really like this book because it is very interesting. You wonder if Carla will forgive Bean and even if she does will Bean forgive Carla? You wonder if Terrible Tanisha will leave Bean alone throughout the year. Terrible Tanisha might not even be that terrible at all. Or maybe she is! I think that Bean should realize that if Carla is being so mean she shouldn’t be friends with her. I think that Carla is overreacting and that she shouldn’t be so mean. Bean is a fun-loving character and very funny.

I would recommend this book for people who like books about solving life-problems. This book is probably for ages 8-12 and had 208 pages.

This book is not published so it will not be in the stores for a while. It should be out in June 2012. The author is Chudney Ross and the publishing company is Harper Collins Publishers.
